Vieux Mirou

In The Area

Our Gîtes, Chez Amis and Maison De Ferme are located together on Vieux Mirou. â€‹The area around Vieux Mirou is rich in interesting features: A rolling country landscape with an ever changing tapestry of fields according to the season, varying crops, rivers and oak woodland.

Being so close to the port city of Aquitaine, the large rivers of Lot, Tarn, Garonne and Dordogne and their tributaries have all helped to form our beautiful countryside and the high outcrops of rock on which the Bastide towns now perch. You can enjoy many scenic walks along them.

Indulge in the finest wines and food, which the area is famed for the production of. â€‹â€‹Many of the wineries will be found towards the Lot Valley and several are open for tastings and purchase of the famous Cahors AOC wines.

You can find many morning and evening markets to buy the finest produce and make up delicious picnics and barbecues.

There are also many leisure activities in the area, such as horse riding, fishing, swimming, golf, hiking, water skiing, tennis and more.

Restaurants/Cafes:

Restaurants in the area are in abundance; with fine French cuisine available at very reasonable prices and a couple within walking distance - try a 'Plat du jour' at midday!

Cross Channel Sports Cars specialise in self-drive classic car hire, experiences, tours and holidays in France. The company is located only a few kilometres away in Roquecor.

The Tourist Information Offices at Montaigu de Quercy and Villeneuve are very helpful will lots of local information and maps available.

Shopping:

Montaigu de Quercy is the closest town providing a chemist, post office, supermarket and bank. The weekly market day is Saturday.

Dausse, which is within walking distance, has some shops with a boulangerie, mini-market and others. Roquecor (a little further away) has a village store.

Surrounding Region

With Lauzerte and Vieux Mirou fairly close by to one another, there are many locations all within a short journey away from both you can visit.

The River Lot winds its way from the Causse de Quercy, a limestone plateau, westwards through the area towards the Gironde near Bordeaux. There are many hiking routes that take you through the beautiful countryside: The hike | Cahors - Lot Valley

To the north of the Lot are chestnut wooded hills as it moves through the regions of Bouriane and Périgord before you meet the glorious scenery of the Dordogne, and many delightful towns including Sarlat, Domme and Bergerac.

The Landscape: The countryside changes throughout the year; emerging from the winter in March, blossoms appear on the many fruit trees and wild flowers decorate the area as the field crops establish.

Later into summer, the bright yellow fields of sunflowers overtake briefly, then once the fruit and wine harvests are completed in mid-October there is a period of glorious autumn colour. The common Virginia Creeper adds touches of bright red to the shades of yellow and brown for wonderful hues.

Night Markets: During the main holiday season, almost every night of the week, you can find a 'Marché Gourmand'. Here you buy food from local producers and eat at family style benches, surrounded by music in a colourful village square. Try Dausse or Bourg-de-Visa on Tuesday, St Maurin or Pujols Wednesday, Lauzerte Thursday, Beauville Friday and Puymirol on Saturday.

Be on the look out for festivals too during your stay, as there are all sorts in this region!
